The Founders, Tomas and Bonnie Fernandez are Christian
visual artists and parents of four children, who are named after the
archangels. Since their marriage in 1989, the Fernandez' have been
combining their artistic and teaching gifts, and their love of God and
family. Their hope, then and now, is to foster ever-improving community
awareness to the arts as a vehicle for experiencing the divine connection
between man and Creator.
They were married in Saint Francis de Sales Catholic church in
Purcellville, Va. where the landmark 33' cross, Crux Gloria, was sculpted
by Tomas, as a result of a divine vision. Their first home in Leesburg,
Virginia was at the historic Oatlands Plantation where they resided as
artists in residence. Their home, studios, and garden featured art
exhibitions of their sculptures and paintings, area artists and students as
well as tours for school and church groups.
The Fernandez’ moved to Madison County in 1992, first to the mountains
and then to the valley. A neighbor to their valley home had felt moved by
God to sell his home to the Archangel Arts Center, which had just come
into being as a non-profit organization. Through prayer, generous
donations, and hard work, God has made this dream a reality. NEXT >
